About the Practice
 |
The six surgeries have been
fitted out in a similar style with Adec chairs and units. Each surgery has an intra- oral x-ray unit with long cone aiming
devices. A full range of hand instruments and handpieces is provided in
each surgery with a central sterilization room and radiograph processing
unit. The surgeries are equipped suitable for VT training. |
A dental technician visits the practice daily and once a week attends morning and afternoon to allow for relines and additions.
Crowns, bridges and veneers are sent to a variety of mainland laboratories with a return within the week.
The local Western Isles Hospital is a well equipped general hospital, with a visiting consultant oral surgeon and orthodontist.
There are weekly practice meetings to keep everyone informed as well as regular training and discussion sessions. A training room has been established as well as internet access.

About the Town
 |
Stornoway a town of 12,000 is the only town for the island population of 28,000 and is the main centre of administration, services and shops. There are 6 main hotels, licensed clubs and dicos as well as 8 churches of various denominations. The town has a large natural harbour which has on one side a very large public estate that provides miles of walks through wooded and rhododendron walkways. |

The Hebridean
Celtic festival takes place each July and
for a full week attracts performers from
all over the world. Throughout the year
there are a variety of concerts
workshops and gaelic music competitions. |
Sport and Leisure:
  
Fishing: There are 5 main salmon rivers and hundreds of trout lochs within 12 miles of Stornoway for the fly fisherman.
For the sea angler there is a sea angling club based in Stornoway which
arranges fishing trips and competitions as well as
providing an active social club.

There is a rugby club, a very extensive football league, a running club, athletics club, bowling club, swimming pool, indoor sports centre, squash courts, all weather running tracks and football pitches. |

The North Atlantic Drift
ensures the water temperature only varies
by about 2 degrees throughout the year and
though a wet suit is essential wind
surfing and boarding take place summer or
winter. |

The east coast of Lewis has many sheltered sea lochs which are ideal for sailing and
canoeing and sub - aqua diving. There are hundreds
of anchorages which you have to share with the
seals, birds and deer. |

There is an popular social golf club with a challenging 18 hole course, and a modern clubhouse set in the middle of Stornoway.

An Lanntair is the local arts centre that as well as providing a wide selection exhibitions hosts a variety of famous musicians and
performers, it also has a 140 seat cinema. The local drama group produce regular plays and pantomimes and there are several choirs. |

For those who enjoy the outdoors there are miles of long sandy beaches, several hills up to 2000ft with several challenging climbs, as well as more traditional walks marked out over the unspoilt countryside.

Transportation:
There are two ferries that supply the island with twice daily services as well as air links with British Airways to Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh,
Aberdeen and an inter-island service.
